Mentoring for Metrology and Industrial Process Standards

The Quality of Life and the Economic Growth of India is directly linked to the Quality Infrastructure in India says Dr. Dinesh Kumar Aswal , Director , National Physical Laboratory , New Delhi speaking at one day Regional Workshop here at the Sanatan Dharma College , Ambala Cantt.

The exports of Basmati Rice from India has been rejected by the United States and the European Union because Indian Basmati Rice was containing higher levels of Arsenic and Lead. Likewise Indian steel , exported to United States , have been rejected because of poor quality by the US Department of Commerce . A large number of Indian pharmaceutical products have been banned by the United States Federal Drug Administration because of poor quality measurements in Indian pharmaceutical companies.

Dr. Aswal told that the Indian Metro Railways in Mumbai could not even design doors for the Metro Trains in Mumbai. Resultantly hundreds of people have died or faced serious injuries in Mumbai Metro Trains during the last ten years. This has been happening for years together . The country even do not have any knowledge of it.

Dr. Aswal told that the National Physical Laboratory , New Delhi has provided Synchronization of National Time-Clocks within 280 nanoseconds accuracy. This has enabled India to launch Indian Global Positioning System . This System has strengthened the Indian Defence Surveillance. Similarly the National Physical Laboratory , New Delhi has designed Bhartiya Nirdeshak Draviya and this is called Indian Reference Materials. These Reference Materials will provide tremendous accuracy and quality improvement in the Indian Cement Industry, Foodgrain Industry, Basmati Rice Export and Steel Exports.

Make-in-India can be a reality only if India makes investment in quality infrastructure , scientists should carry out innovations , Skill Development must take place and the national will should be energized. Dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of Make in India can be a reality if all people work with a spirit of growth .

Dr. Aswal told that the National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi has recently designed Wind Tunnel to calibrate Pollution Meters in India for suspended particulate matter in polluted air across metro and other towns in India. This Wind Tunnel has been dedicated to the nation very recently by Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Science & Technology.

Dr. Ranjana Mehrotra, Mr. Anil Kumar, Dr. Sanjay Yadav & Dr. SSK Titus addressed to various sections of Quality Standards of ISO 17025. Mr. Alok Jain, Joint Director, NABL and Mr. Ashutosh Aggarwal, Deputy Director, Legal Metrology & Professor Sushil Mittal Vice President, Metrology Society of India spoke on various concerns pertaining Legal Metrology.

Dr. Anil Jain , Project Co-ordinator told that such Mentoring Programmes on Quality , Metrology and Standardization are the need of the hour . More than 125 delegates from industry and research took part in the programme . He told that more such programmes will be conducted all across India with active collaboration with the experts from the Quality Council of India and the National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi and the retired distinguished scientists of repute in the field of metrology all across India.
